Drivers in Greater Manchester will not face additional charges under new Clean Air Zone (CAZ) rules, as the region takes a different approach to tackling air pollution.
Instead of imposing fees, Greater Manchester will introduce 117 lower and zero-emission buses as part of an £86 million initiative aimed at improving air quality. The Labour government confirmed the plan, which prioritizes compliance with legal nitrogen dioxide limits without requiring charges for drivers.
Unlike other areas where Clean Air Zones with charges are deemed necessary, Greater Manchester has presented evidence that non-charging measures will achieve air quality targets more quickly.
