Drivers warned to renew licences or risk a £1,000 fine

January 14th, 2025

Drivers who passed their test before 2015 are urged to check their licences to avoid fines of up to £1,000. UK law requires licences to be renewed every 10 years to ensure accuracy and compliance with road regulations. Failure to update an expired licence is an offence under the Road Traffic Act 1988.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) advises that renewing a licence is simple and affordable, with online applications starting at just £14. Neglecting to renew could result in fines or even vehicle seizure.
