An employee used a company fuel card to steal over £10,500 worth of petrol, which he then sold to pay off drug debts, Hull Crown Court has heard.
Between March and July last year, Jamie Hawksworth made multiple unauthorised fuel purchases while his company vehicle remained parked at the business premises. The theft was uncovered during an internal audit that revealed discrepancies between the vehicle’s fuel usage and its tracked movements.
Hawksworth had been employed as a mobile engineer and used the card at various locations across the country. The scam caused significant financial loss to the company.
