FedEx Express Europe is exploring the use of renewable diesel (HVO) by conducting trials with five trucks in the UK, following their successful implementation in the Netherlands starting November 2023.
This initiative aims to significantly reduce their carbon footprint by offering an alternative to traditional fossil fuels. While FedEx Express has set a goal to fully transition to an electric fleet by 2024, the presence of large heavy goods vehicles poses challenges.
Louise Whitehouse, Managing Director of Fleet Maintenance for FedEx Express Europe, noted that using synthetically-made diesel provides an interim solution, potentially lowering ‘well-to-wheel’ carbon emissions by up to 80-90% per litre.
