Amazon has announced the largest electric heavy goods vehicle (eHGV) order in the UK, with plans to add over 150 electric trucks to its fleet in the next 18 months.
The order includes more than 140 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks and eight Volvo FM Battery Electric lorries, significantly expanding its current fleet of nine eHGVs. Once operational, the new trucks are expected to transport over 300 million packages annually across the UK.
To support the rollout, Amazon will install high-speed charging infrastructure at key locations, including 360kW chargers capable of recharging the eActros 600 from 20% to 80% in just over an hour. These trucks will have a range of 310 miles (500km) on a full charge.
Twenty of the Mercedes-Benz trucks and all eight Volvo FM trucks are part of the UK Government’s Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator (ZEHID) programme, with partial funding from the Department for Transport and Innovate UK.
