At 22 million, nearly one in four vehicles sold globally this year will be electric, up 25% from 2024. Which means 2025 is set for a record-breaking year, with the UK the leading nation in Europe for EV adoption.
Arguably, the transition to electric has been quicker than expected in Britain. The cost of lithium-ion batteries is falling and more affordable models are reaching the market, but confidence in infrastructure has also played a major part, with business and government investments making charge points more readily accessible.
Projections for fleets were equally positive, with EV fleets expected to surpass the size of non-electric fleets in many countries over the coming decades.
