Able Humber Port to host UK’s first electric HGV charging hub

September 6th, 2024

Plans have been approved for what is set to be the UK’s first electric heavy goods vehicle (HGV) charging site at the Humber. Aiming to help decarbonise diesel fleets.

Milence, an automotive joint venture, has secured permission from North Lincolnshire Council to begin work on the project this November. The charging hub will support electric-powered HGVs, offering a greener alternative to diesel fleets across South Humber ports.

The first phase will introduce four Combined Charging Systems (CCS) powering eight bays. And one Megawatt Charging System (MCS) powering two bays. The site will also feature a lounge with food and drink facilities. Plans include additional CCS and MCS chargers.

Able Humber Port is providing the land for this development. Which benefits from Freeport tax reliefs like business rates and stamp duty exemptions.

Peter Stephenson, founder and executive chairman of Able Group, said: “We’re excited to welcome Milence to Able Humber Port to deliver the UK’s first electric charging hub. This is a major step in helping decarbonise both the Humber Ports and the HGV transport industry as we work towards net zero.”

Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence, a joint venture between Daimler Truck, Volvo Group, and Traton Group, added: “Our first UK hub in Immingham is a key milestone. This strategic location supports the growing demand for sustainable transport solutions and aligns with our vision for green logistics across Europe.”
