UK’s first public HGV charging hub opens in North Lincolnshire

March 6th, 2025

The UK’s first public electric charging hub for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) has opened at Able Humber Port in Immingham, North Lincolnshire. Developed by Milence, a joint venture between Daimler Truck, Traton Group, and Volvo Group, the hub features eight charging bays, including a high-performance megawatt charger capable of fully charging an electric lorry in approximately 90 minutes.

Strategically located off the A180 with direct motorway access, the hub received planning approval in June 2023. Milence aims to establish electric route corridors for HGVs across Europe, with plans for routes between Immingham and Birmingham, as well as Liverpool and Northampton. The company is targeting the installation of 1,700 charging points across Europe by 2027.
