Driving licence checks

Employers are responsible for checking that their drivers have a valid driving licence if they are driving for work to ensure they meet all the necessary requirements.

This includes checking: licence validity, disqualifications, licence expiry date, which vehicles the driver is allowed to drive, offences and penalty points.

Third-party software

Fleet management software often includes features for driving license checks, helping streamline this aspect of your business. These apps typically offer annual licence verification, alleviating fleet managers from this responsibility.

GOV.UK

Checks can be done using the government’s ‘view your driving record’ service, you’ll just need the last eight characters of each driver’s driving licence number, along with a check code from the driver.
