MOT is an acronym for the Ministry of Transport. This was the government department responsible for checking vehicle roadworthiness when the test was introduced in 1960.

What is checked in an MOT?

It usually includes: the brakes, the fuel system, lights, mirrors, seatbelts, windscreen wipers and exhaust system.
